You Are My Flower
03:28
|
|||
The grass is just as green
The sky is just as blue
The day is just as bright
The birds are singing, too
Refrain:
You are my flower
That's blooming in the mountain for me
You are my flower
That's blooming there for me
-Solo-
The air is just as pure
The sunlight just as free
And nature seems to say
It's all for you and me
Refrain: -Solo-
So wear a happy smile
And life will be worthwhile
Forget your tears
And don't forget to smile
Refrain: -Solo-
When summertime has passed
And snow begins to fall
Just sing this song
And say to one and all

Fair and Tender Ladies
03:41
|
|||
Come all you fair and tender ladies
Take a warning how you court your men
They’re like a star on a summers morning
First they appear and then they’re gone
They’ll tell to you some loving stories
Make you think they love you well
And then they’ll go and court another
Leave you alone in grief to dwell
Do you remember our days of courting
When you lay down upon my breast
You could make me believe by point of your arm
That the sun rose in the west.
I wished I was a tiny sparrow
And I had wings and I could fly
I’d fly away to my own true lover
And in her soft arms I would lie
But I am not a tiny sparrow
I have no wings, nor can I fly
So I’ll sit here and weep in sorrow
And try to pass my troubles by
Oh love is handsome, love is gentle
Gay as a jewel when first it’s new
But love grows cold as it grows older
And fades away like morning due
So come all you fair and tender ladies
Take a warning how you court your men
They’re like a star on a summers morning
First they appear and then they’re gone

The Grape Pickers
04:28
|
|||
The night time is hot and the city is sleeping
Ramon Sanchez takes Maria his wife by the hand
The American border's a mile down the highway
The border they gotta cross over to work on the land
Cross over to work on the land
Ramon and Maria just follow the footsteps
To a place called "the Hole" where ten thousand stand in a line
If you look like you're strong you'll get work in the vinyards
Where fruit flies are thicker than dust or the grapes on the vine
Than dust or the grapes on the vine
At four the bus starts on another day's journey
At six see the sun in the hlls and the sky glowin' red
At eight they arrive, by nine they are weary
By eleven the drone of the duster is heard overhead
You work in a blizzard of fruit flies and hoppers
You bend and you bleed and you sweat and you choke and you crawl
Your lungs fill with dust and your body is broken
The life of a picker, you know it ain't no life at all
You know it ain't no life at all
<break
The duster plane circled low over the vinyard
Ramon knew the sound that means run for the trucks or the shed
It came down like rain where Maria was working
Maria worked on, but a few hours later fell dead
A few hours later fell dead
Ramon, said the grower, we're all mighty sorry
She must have been sick long before she come up from the South
The spray can't hurt people and we don't want trouble
So here's your day's pay, dont come back and don't open your mouth
Don't come back and don't open your mouth
He threw down the money, walked out of the office
Maria was taken to town and they gave him her things
There's nowhere to go now but over the border
Adios mi Maria, it's their death the next harvest brings
It's their death the next harvest brings

The Great Titanic
04:08
|
|||
It was on one Monday morning just about one o'clock
When the great Titanic began to reel and rock;
All the people screamed and cried,
Saying, "Lord, we’re going to die
It was sad when that great ship went down
Chorus
It was sad when that great ship went down,
It was sad when that great ship went down,
Husbands and wives and little children lost their lives,
It was sad when that great ship went down.
While they were building they said what they would do,
We will build a ship that water can't go through;
But God with mighty hand
Showed the world it could not stand, it was sad…
They sailed from England’s port but they never did reach the shore,
The rich folks refused to associate with the poor,
So they sent the poor below,
Where they were the first to go, it was sad...
The people on that ship were a long ways from home,
With friends all around they didn't know their time had come;
Then Death came riding by,
Sixteen hundred had to die, it was sad...
What an awful sight to see all those people on the sea,
They say that they were singing, "Nearer My God to Thee."
While some were homeward bound,
Sixteen hundred had to drown.
The first class people were the most to be saved
More of the second class went to a watery grave
But on the ocean floor
Lies the tomb of the poor, it was sad...

Ira Hayes
03:51
|
|||
(Cho.) Call him drunken Ira Hayes --
He won't answer anymore,
Not the whiskey-drinking Indian
Or the Marine who went to war.
Yes, call him drunken Ira Hayes --
He won't answer anymore,
Not the whiskey-drinking Indian
Or the Marine who went to war.
Gather round me, people, and a story I will tell
About a brave young Indian you should remember well
From the tribe of Pima Indians, a proud and a peaceful band,
They farmed the Phoenix valley in Arizona land.
Down their ditches for a thousand years the sparkling water rushed,
Till the white man stole their water rights and the running water hushed.
Now Ira's folks were hungry, and their farms grew crops of weeds.
But when war came, he volunteered and forgot the white man's greed.
(Cho.)
They started up Iwo Jima hill, two hundred and fifty men,
But only twenty-seven lived to walk back down that hill again.
And when the fight was over and Old Glory raised
Among the men who held it high was the Indian, Ira Hayes.
(Cho.)
Now, Ira returned a hero, celebrated throughout the land
He was wined and speeched and honored, everybody shook his hand.
But he was just a Pima Indian -- no money, no crops, no chance --
And at home nobody cared what Ira'd done, and when do the Indians dance? (Cho)
Then Ira started drinking hard, jail was often his home.
They let him raise the flag there and lower it like you'd throw a dog a bone.
He died drunk early one morning, alone in the land he'd fought to save.
Two inches of water in a lonely ditch was the grave for Ira Hayes.
Call him drunken Ira Hayes --
He won't answer anymore,
Not the whiskey-drinking Indian
Or the Marine who went to war.
Yes, call him drunken Ira Hayes,
But his land is still as dry,
And his ghost is lying thirsty
In the ditch where Ira died.
Call him drunken Ira Hayes --
He won't answer anymore,
Not the whiskey-drinking Indian
Or the Marine who went to war.

Destiny
04:30
|
|||
When I was just a young man, shy as I could be
I fell in love with a pretty little girl but she would not look at me
Well I got a guitar, wrote her a song, practiced night and day
And just as soon as she heard that tune I saw her look my way
Chorus
So I’ll keep right on singing my song, ‘till destiny calls me home
I’ll keep right on singing my song ‘till destiny calls me home
As through this world I ramble, as through this world I roam
I’ll keep right on singing my song, ‘till destiny calls me home
One day I got a letter, Uncle Sam he says to me
Gotta fight this war on terror to keep our country free
Grabbed my guitar, wrote him a song, told him what he could do
There’s millions more don’t like your war, and I don’t like it too
Chorus
Now my son’s a young man, more like me than me
He’s real sweet on a pretty little girl, doin’ what comes naturally
He got my guitar, wrote her a song, she turned to him and said
“I believe you’re the one for me, so come on right ahead.”
Chorus
I look around your cities, I look around my town
They’re putting folks in boxes, covering the ground
Take my guitar, write lots of songs, sing ‘em down your way
You’ll see my friends that what goes up, must come down some day
Chorus
Now I’m gettin’ old, losing my hair, I can’t see quite so far
But I still can see it ain’t no use to send our boys to war
Take my guitar, write one more song, play it loud and clear
Let’s bring ‘em home no more to roam or fall so far from here
Final Chorus

Banks of Marble
03:26
|
|||
I’ve travelled round this country
From shore to shining shore
It really made me wonder
The things I heard and saw
I saw the weary farmer plowing his sod and loam
And I heard the auction hammer just a-knockin down his home
Chorus But the banks are made of marble
With a guard at every door
And the vaults are stuffed with silver
That the farmer sweated for
I’ve seen the seamen standing
Idly by the shore
And I heard the boss a-saying
Got no work for you no more
I’ve seen the weary miner
Scrubbing coal dust off his back
And I heard his children crying
Got no coal to heat the shack
Seen my bothers and sisters working
Throughout this mighty land
I prayed we’d get together
And together take a stand
Then we’d own those banks of marble, etc
And we’d share those vaults of silver
Alternative:
We’d blow up those banks of marble, etc
And kick out those fat cat bankers

United 93
03:29
|
|||
It was on a Tuesday morning, the sun was shining bright
37 passengers were boarding for the flight
Destination San Francisco, they’d never get to see
Departure boards were flashing United 93
Chorus
United 93, remember their names
Come tell of the time on that great silver plane
The bravest band of travellers that ever flew the sky
Said “We’re bound to fight ‘cause we know we’re bound to die.”
Half an hour in the air, four hijackers attacked
Blood flowed in the cockpit, the passengers forced back
They could see that these assassins were bent on suicide
Their dark and deadly plan must surely be defied
Chorus
(spoken)
Time was short, they all phoned home, said what they had to do
“We’re gonna take the plane back even if we go down too”
Five men led the charge, a voice called out “Let’s roll”
They crashed at Stoney Creek and became immortal souls
Chorus
A fireball of lightening broke across the hills that day
God knows what greater terror they defeated by the way
So when we sing of heroes who keep our country free
We’ll remember the passengers on Flight 93
Chorus
Flight United 93….

New York Girl
02:55
|
|||
I often wondered
When I was young
How will I know
When I meet The One?
Well, I came to town
For a one night stand
I saw her face
And took her hand (tag)
I was afraid
That we would part
She followed me
And won my heart
You can search any city
Right around the world
You won’t find none sweeter
Than my New York girl (break)
If I could fly
Like Noah’s dove
I’d fly away
To the one I love
She’s like a flower
That blooms each morn
When I wake beside her
I feel reborn (tag)
I know that if
I should fall down
She’d lift me up
And bring me round
If I live forever
If that ever could be
A more beautiful lover
I never could see (break)
Now I don’t care
Where this road leads
My New York girl
Is all I need
No more I’ll travel
This weary world
I’m going home
To my New York girl
(Tag out)
